A value study, done in oil, of Sargent's "Capri Girl." I focused on getting the right edges in the right spot. My confidence with oil has gone up over the past year. I had a fun time with this one, and I think it was successful.

Master-copy of Velázquez's "Juan de Pareja"
I'm working on a few personal projects. Topics and genres I've always wanted to paint. I'm using this opportunity to explore ideas, hobbies, styles, and subject matters. And with most of the planning is done for all four projects, I'm really excited for these next few months.
Along the way, I'll be doing a lot of master-copying - both digital & in oil. For this first one, I decided on Velázquez, who is one of my favorite artists. I'm really trying to match the edge work digitally. I feel this painting might be duller and warmer than what I'm seeing on the internet. In a few weeks, I'll come back, and paint the full painting as a test of improvement.

Facebook & WonderCon 2013
Thank you to all that came out to WonderCon and visited the Two Jays! Jessica Chrysler and I had an amazing time in Artists' Alley, meeting a lot of new friends and fans. We both were amazed and excited by the support of the community, and the positive response our work. I personally can't wait till next year.
If you didn't manage to get to the show, you can still get one of my prints via my DeviantArt page. My sketchbook, "Progress in Work," is still available at Comics Factory in Pasadena, CA. Prints from last year's show are free to download in a high-res format.
Lastly, if you like my Facebook Page, I'll send you a download link to a FREE digital copy of my sketchbook, "Progress in Work."

WonderCon & JCPenney commercial with RogerLA
Wow! WonderCon was amazing! I met so many awesome people. It was great to get my work out there and get such a good response. I have a few sketchbooks left from the con. If you would like one, message me on my site, JoeDraws.com, in the contact section. I'm selling them for $5, so they should go pretty fast. If you go to Otis College, message me, and I'll bring some with me to the life drawing workshops on Thursdays.

Here are some funny sketches I did for RogerLA. This was a JCPenny commercial they did recently.
And as always, any comments or critiques of my work are welcome. I'm always available to learn.

More WonderCon sketches
I'm sitting here finishing up everything for WonderCon. I'm a little nervous but really excited. Here's some of the work in progress that's going to be there. If you can make it, drop by and say hi. Also, check out Jessica Chrysler, an amazing storybook author and illustrator. She will be at my booth as well.
